Coming-of-age novel following a small-town Gen X American girl named Kitty, from her senior year in high school to her life as an extremely unsuccessful lawyer in Manhattan. The novel begins with three days in the life of a group of high-school friends in 1993, culminating in a fistfight on the village green over the honor of the Prom Queen. The scene then shifts to New York City. Kitty is called back home for a funeral, and then, years later, someone from her small-town past pays Kitty a visit that changes her life.
